1985年研究生毕业于广州外国语学院英语系，1989年获英国爱丁堡大学应用语言学系硕士学位，1996在英国鲁顿大学从事研究四个月。现为华中师范大学外国语学院副院长、英语系教授、硕士研究生导师、国家教育部全国高等教育自学考试指导委员会英语专业委员会委员、湖北省跨世纪中青年学科带头人、华中师范大学考试科学研究与开发中心研究员。主要研究兴趣包括语法理论与流派、应用语言学、语言测试和语言习得。先后讲授过《语言测试学》、《英语语法流派导论》、《应用语言学导论》、《外语教学中的科研方法》和《电脑与语言教学》等硕士研究生课程。先后承担过国家教委“八·五”规划项目、中英合作项目、国家教委委托项目、湖北省教学立项项目等。编著或参编出版书籍15部、译作3部；发表论文20多篇。其中有些曾获奖或被《人民日报》（海外版）和《高等学校文科学报文摘》摘要转载。其简历被收入英国剑桥国际传记中心所编的《突出贡献名人辞典》（15和16版）（MEN  OF  ACHIEVEMENT）和国家教委所编的《中国百所高等学校中青年科教授概览》。

Chen Youlin  graduated from the English Department of Guangzhou Foreign Languages Institute as a postgraduate student in 1985, got his MSc. in the Department of Applied Linguistics of Edinburgh University in Britain in 1989 and did research for four months in Luton University in U.K. in 1996. Now he is a professor of English, deputy dean of  the School of Foreign Languages of Central China Normal University(CCNU), supervisor of postgraduate students, member of the English Committee of the National Examination Board of Higher Education for Self-instructed Learners, academic middle-aged key member of Hubei Province, and research fellow of the Centre for Studies in Testing Science and Development of CCNU. His main research interests include theories of grammar, schools of grammar, applied linguistics, language testing, and psycholinguistics. The courses he is now offering to the postgraduate students are Introduction to General Linguistics, Language Testing, Introduction to the Schools of English Grammar, Introduction to Applied Linguistics, Researching Methods in Foreign Language Teaching, and Computer and Language Teaching. He has taken part in and completed  the research project of the State Education Commission “Examination of the General Aptitude Traits of the Civil Servants in China”, Sino-British research project “the Writing of Advanced General English Course Books for English Majors of Chinese Normal Universities”, “the Writing of the Testing Syllabus and Course Book of Foreign Language Teaching Methodology for Self-instructed Learners” entrusted by the State Education Commission,  and the educational research project of Hubei Education Commission “Studies of the Content and Methods for the Teaching of English Majors in Normal Universities”.  He has published 15 books, 3 translations, and more than 20 articles, some of which have been awarded prizes or reprinted by newspapers or journals. He has entries in Men of Achievement compiled by Cambridge International Biographical Centre and Essential Information about Middle-aged and Young Professors in 100 Chinese Key Universities compiled by the State Education Commission.
